Attempted Abduction Reported In Cherokee

Date posted - September 27, 2012

Cherokee, Iowa — Another abduction attempt has been reported in northwest Iowa.

The Cherokee Police Department reports that just before noon on Thursday, they received a report of an adult male being asked to get into a vehicle. The victim, who was 22 years old, reports that the incident happened near Fareway in Cherokee.

He says the suspect was driving a silver van, and asked the 22-year-old where he was going. The man in the van also told him to “get in the car”. Police report the man kept walking to work, and the van turned around and went the other way. The man reported to work and contacted law enforcement nearly an hour later.

The man who was approached described the suspect as in his forties or fifties, with short grey hair. He said the van was a 2000 or newer model, silver in color.

Earlier on Thursday, the Alta-Aurelia school website had some information about the incident. They indicated that the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office would be providing extra protection for their students, and if possible, the parents may want to pick up their students.

The Cherokee Community School District later issued their own statement, in which they say they have been, QUOTE: ” . . . in close contact with local law enforcement and while we will never dismiss any allegation of this nature, [we] believe our students are safe and there is no immediate threat.”

  1. Fix The World says:

Why is it so hard for people to stand up? If some creep tries to abduct a grown man, perhaps said man should try to capture the creep…so we don’t have to worry about children being nabbed. Walking away and calling the cops from the workplace isn’t going to amount to much being done. “We’ll make a report…confer…consult…” blah blah blah (taxpayer $). How many times haven’t these actions taken place recently in NW IA? All I can say is, if some man asks me to step inside his van, the van won’t be the only thing missing parts. Can’t we be America again?

Have any of these people heard of a license plate?????
