Attorney To Serve 10-Year Prison Term

Spencer, Iowa — A Spencer attorney will serve a 10-year prison sentence after being convicted in a 2013 case.

According to court records, 63-year-old Ney McDaniel was sentenced to the term by Judge Patrick Tott for First Degree Fraudulent practice. A second count of the offense as well as a charge of ongoing criminal conduct were dismissed.

McDaniel was accused of claiming false hours working as a contract defense attorney for the State of Iowa Public Defenders Office. A state audit discovered the $177,000 discrepancy and charges were filed in October, 2013.

McDaniel was also ordered to pay back the $177,000 and pay a $1000 fine.
