Beresford Woman Dies In Accident North Of Alcester

Fatal Crash 2Alcester, South Dakota — A Beresford woman died in a two-vehicle crash, not too far from the state line at the intersections of SD Highways 11 and 46 north of Alcester on Friday, November 15.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol reports that 29-year-old Jennifer Renae Weiland of Beresford was westbound on Highway 46 driving a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander, while 30-year-old Jessica Ann Ault of Centerville, was northbound on Highway 11 driving a 2001 Ford Windstar. The vehicles collided in the intersection and came to rest in the northwest ditch.

Weiland was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial reports said she was not wearing a seatbelt. Additional investigation shows that she was wearing a seatbelt.

Ault was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital. She was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from her vehicle. Her injuries were reported as being life-threatening.

Highway 11 has a stop sign at that intersection. It is not immediately known if Ault stopped.

No further information is immediately available.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. The Alcester Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Alcester Emergency Medical Service and Alcester Fire Department assisted.
