Blizzard Socks Area

snowplow snow plowSheldon, Iowa — Punxsutawney Phil may not have seen his shadow in Pennsylvania this morning, but here in northwest Iowa, winter is alive and well.  A blizzard has unleashed it’s fury on our area today, and will continue to do so through the evening hours.  Schools were closed across the area today, as were many manufacturing facilities, and most other businesses.  Law enforcement is advising no travel, and went so far as to enact a Tow Ban.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Phil Schumacher in Sioux Falls says a large band of heavy snow is lingering over our area.

Schumacher says the storm will probably dump more than the forecast amount of snow on the area.

He says that, even when the snowfall lets up, drifting snow will make travel hazardous this evening.

Schumacher says the weather outlook for tomorrow will be much more pleasant, although colder, than today.

Again, we do want to stress that law enforcement authorities in northwest Iowa are strongly discouraging travel, and a Tow Ban is in effect.
