Sibley, Iowa — The Sioux Falls Community Blood Bank Bloodmobile will be holding a blood drive in Sibley on Tuesday, January 24th.

Kathy Winter at Osceola Community Hospital says it’s always important to give blood, but she tells us why they need your help now.

In addition, blood bank officials say cold and flu season is keeping some donors away. Winter says there’s always a reason that some donors can’t make it, so it’s important that you give every time you can.

She says you do have to be 17 years old or 16 with a signed parent consent form found at cbblifeblood.org. She says you do have to weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. According to Winter if you’ve been sick in the past few days you shouldn’t give, but if it was a week ago or more you’re probably fine. She says you can donate blood every 56 days. You are asked to bring an ID with you when you come. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating too.

According to Winter, the blood drive will be at Osceola Community Hospital, and they take walk-ins, or you can make an appointment by calling the lab at 712-754-2574 ext. 260.

The Community Blood Bank is the sole supplier of all blood and blood products for Osceola Community Hospital. Winter says no hospitals in our area, including Osceola Community Hospital receive any blood or blood products from the American Red Cross.

The hours for the blood drive are from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.
