Blood Drive At NCC Wednesday: Blood Urgently Needed
Date posted - April 10, 2012
There’s a blood drive at Northwest Iowa Community College this Wednesday, and the need is greater than usual.
Rita Nelson, with the Community Blood Bank says that due to a mechanical failure, Community Blood Bank was forced to cancel three blood drives within the last week, placing a very heavy strain on the blood supply. She says that when you donate blood you are helping local patients in their time of need. Your donations will make blood readily available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The drive is this Wednesday morning and afternoon from 9:00am to 12:30pm and 2:00pm to 4:00pm. All blood types are in need.
Ken Ver Steeg with the Community Blood Bank says that they could really use everyone’s help right now, and has some advice for first-time donors.
A person must be at least 17 years old (or 16 years of age with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org). You must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood. All who donate will receive t-shirt as a thank you gift.
