Boyden Man’s Vehicle Hits Bus Near Rock Valley

siouxsheriff2A Western Christian bus and a Boyden man’s Toyota were damaged in an accident on Friday, February 14th near Rock Valley

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 7:50 am, on the 14th, 66-year-old Leona Vande Vegte of Hull was eastbound on 340th St, five miles southwest of Rock Valley, in a 2009 Bluebird Bus for Western Christian High School. Thirty-five-year-old Lino Gonzalez of Boyden was westbound on 340th St in a 1992 Toyota Celica.

Vander Vegte was slowing down to pick up a student; she had activated the bus’ amber lights. Gonzalez was unable to stop for the bus; he lost control of his vehicle striking the bus in the front bumper.

The bus received $1,500 damage. Gonzalez’s Toyota received $2,000 damage

According to the report, the bus had 12 additional students riding at the time of the accident but no injuries were reported.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Iowa State Patrol.
