Hawarden Teen Injured in Accident

sioux county sheriff emblemSioux Center, Iowa — A Hawarden teen was taken to the hospital after an accident near Sioux Center on Thursday, January 19th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that after 8:00 am on Thursday, 17-year-old Isaac Van Beek of Maurice was driving a 2007 Mercury Montego northbound on Garfield Avenue, three miles southwest of Sioux Center. Eighteen-year-old Samantha Owen of Hawarden was driving a 2017 Hyundai Elantra westbound on 420th Street. According to the report, Van Beek failed to stop for the stop sign at 420th Street, entered the intersection and struck Owen.

Owen was transported by private vehicle to the Sioux Center Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The Mecury received $5,000 damage; the Hyundai received $10,000 damage.
