Hudson Man’s Car Damaged In Accident Near Ireton

Ireton, Iowa — On Tuesday, December 4 at 1:37 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of 420th Street and Eagle Avenue, seven miles west of Sioux Center.

Stanley Vandenberg, age 71, of Sioux Center was driving a 2006 Ford delivery truck eastbound on 420th Street, about four miles north of Ireton, near K30. Gregory Scholten, age 30, of Hudson, SD was driving a 2009 Ford Escape eastbound on 420th Street following Vandenberg; both vehicles then stopped for the stop sign at the intersection with Eagle Avenue (K30). As a semi truck pulling a trailer was turning from Eagle Avenue onto 420th Street to proceed westbound, Vandenberg began backing away from the intersection and struck Scholten’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

The Ford Escape sustained approximately $2,000 in damages. The Ford delivery truck was not damaged.

Vandenberg was cited for unsafe backing.
