accident wordLarchwood, Iowa — An Inwood man was taken to the hospital, then to jail, following a one-vehicle accident near Larchwood Friday evening (August 19th).

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened about 8:15 Friday evening, when a vehicle driven by 40-year old Barry Bomgaars, of Inwood, was southbound on Cherry Avenue, about 2 miles south of Laarchwood.  Authorities say Bomgaars didn’t slow down enough to effectively negotiate the “T” intersection at 160th Street, causing his vehicle to skid out of control.  The vehicle reportedly came to rest on it’s wheels, in the south ditch of 160th Street.

According to the accident report, Bomgaars was transported to the Sanford Rock Rapids Hospital, by Lyon County EMS, for treatment of minor injuries.

After being released from the hospital, he was taken to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, where an OWI investigation was completed.  Upon completion of that investigation, deputies say Bomgaars was arrested and booked into the Lyon County Jail for Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, a serious misdemeanor.  Bomgaars was also reportedly issued a citation for Failure To Maintain Control of a Vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Office worked the accident scene in conjunction with Larchwood Fire and Rescue, Larchwood EMS, and the Lyon County Ambulance service.
