Sibley, Iowa — A Melvin man has now been charged in connection with a personal injury collision that happened earlier this week in Sibley.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, 23-year old Daniel Santiz Perez of Melvin has been identified as the driver of a 2005 Pontiac G6 that was eastbound on 5th Street in Sibley in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 5th. Deputies say the car Santiz Perez was driving rear-ended a 2017 Ford Fusion, driven by 26-year old Nicole Wesselink of Hartley, who was stopped for the stop sign at 11th Avenue, and also headed east.
According to Osceola County authorities, Santiz Perez and a passenger in his vehicle fled the scene of the crash on foot, with the passenger returning to the scene, in need of an ambulance. Deputies say the unidentified passenger was transported to the Osceola Community Hospital by the Sibley Ambulance. Wesselink escaped injury in the crash.
As a result of their investigation, deputies say they were eventually able to identify Santiz Perez as the driver of the car, and charged him with Leaving The Scene Of A Personal Injury Accident, No Insurance, Failure To Have A Valid Driver’s License, Open Container, and Following Too Closely.
According to authorities, Wesselink’s Ford and Santiz Perez’s Pontiac each sustained an estimated $10-thousand damage in the crash.
