June 30, 2012, at 8:25pm, Cory Vaselaar, age 43 of Sheldon, Iowa, was driving a 2001 GMC pickup, westbound on Hwy 9, west of White Avenue and struck a deer on the Hwy. Vaselaar’s vehicle sustained approximately $2,500 damage. No injuries were reported.
June 30, 2012, Karrie Jean Ferguson, age 52 of Spirit Lake, Iowa, was arrested in Harris for allegedly Driving While Revoked, a Serious Misdemeanor. Ferguson was booked into the Osceola county jail on a $1,000 cash bond.
June 30, 2012, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, received a 9-1-1 complaint about an erratic driver heading southbound on Hwy 60, from 100th Street in rural Osceola County. Javier Michael Granados, age 23 of Worthington, Minnesota was stopped at 170th Street, on Hwy 60. Granados was arrested for allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 3rd Offense, a Class “D” Felony; and Open Container, a Simple Misdemeanor. Granados was also given a citation for Speed. Granados was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $5,300 cash bond.
June 29, 2012, Angel Alfredo Escobar Cifuentes, age 25 of Sibley, Iowa, pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated 3rd or Subsequent Offense, a Class “D” Felony. The Defendant is to pay a total fine of $4,528.75, the cost of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, if any. The Defendant is sentenced to the custody of the Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections for a term not to exceed five (5) years, with all time suspended. The Defendant is placed on formal probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for a period of two (2) years. The Defendant shall successfully complete a program at a Residential Treatment Facility operated by the Iowa Department of Corrections, attend weekly AA meetings, and obtain a sponsor. On December 10, 2011, Angel Alfredo Escobar Cifuentes was stopped on 4th Street and 3rd Avenue in Sibley, Iowa for a traffic violation. During the course of the stop, an Osceola County Deputy could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage on Escobar’s breath, and observed his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. Escobar failed sobriety tests, and tested over .08. A check of Escobar’s criminal history showed three (3) previous Operating While Intoxicated convictions. Escobar was charged with Operating While Intoxicated 3rd or Subsequent Offense.
June 28, 2012, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office investigated a suspicious person loitering in the alley between 8th and 9th Street, off of 3rd Avenue in Sibley, Iowa. Nicholas Daniel Strouth, age 20 of Sibley, Iowa, was arrested for Public Intoxication, a Simple Misdemeanor. Strouth was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $300 cash bond.
June 25, 2012, Anthony Charles Lucas, age 25 of Ashton, Iowa, pled guilty to Interference with Official Acts, Open Container, and Speeding, all Simple Misdemeanors. The Defendant is to pay a total fine of $477, the cost of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, if any. On the Interference charge, the Defendant is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail for a term of thirty (30) days, with all time suspended and placed on informal probation to the Magistrate court for a period of two (2) years. On June 17, 2012, at approximately 1:00am, Anthony Charles Lucas was stopped on 3rd Avenue and 5th Street in Ashton, Iowa for speeding. Lucas stopped the vehicle in the middle of the roadway and fled the vehicle on foot. Lucas was later located at 5:45pm at his residence in Ashton and arrested for Interference with Official Acts, Open Container, and Speeding.
