Rock Valley, Iowa — A Rock Valley woman was taken to the hospital after an accident in Rock Valley.
The Rock Valley Police Department reports that about 3:40 PM on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, 50-year-old Ma Del Carmen Marquez Leanos of Rock Valley was driving a Ford pickup northbound on Main Street. They report that 31-year-old Annie Schleis of Rock Valley was northbound on Main behind Marquez Leanos in a 2000 Dodge Caravan; and 16-year-old Joseph Groeneweg of Rock Valley was northbound on Main in a 2008 Ford pickup, behind Schleis. The report says that Marquez Leanos was stopped at the Twelfth Street intersection with her turn signal on, waiting for southbound traffic to clear so she could turn left onto Twelfth.
The report says Schleis was unable to stop in time due to following too closely and slick road conditions, and collided with Marquez Leanos’ pickup. Groeneweg was also unable to stop, as the officer says he too was following too closely. He collided with the Schleis minivan.
The Rock Valley Ambulance took Schleis to Hegg Memorial hospital. The report says she was 39 weeks pregnant at the time.
Marquez Leanos’s pickup sustained $2500 in damages. Schleis’s Dodge Caravan sustained $8000 in damages, which totaled the minivan. Groeneweg’s Ford pickup sustained $7000 in damages.
Both Schleis and Groeneweg were charged with following too closely.
