The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 3:10 AM on Sunday, December 18, 2016, it appears that 18-year-old Brianna McAlpine of Sheldon was northbound on Taft Avenue in a 2012 Nissan, two miles east of Primghar. The report says that McAlpine does not recall what took place during this accident. According to the deputy, there is a stop sigh for north and south bound traffic when Taft Avenue crosses 390th Street. The deputy says it appears that McAlpine did not stop for the stop sign and then lost control of the car as it went thru the intersection. The Nissan entered the east ditch and rolled coming to rest on the passenger side of the car in an open field.

The deputy notes that the air temperature at the time of the accident was about -22 degrees with a wind chill of -44 degrees. The report says McAlpine lost her phone and shoes in the crash and made her way on foot thru an open field to a nearby farm house to seek help and get out of the extreme cold.

The Primghar Ambulance took McAlpine to Baum Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar for treatment of cold exposure. A blood sample was collected and sent to the State DCI lab for testing. The deputy says McAlpine may be charged with Operating While Intoxicated, pending the results of the blood test.

McAlpine’s Nissan sustained $10,000 in damages, which was enough to total the car.
