Sioux Center Accident Sends Two To Hospital

Sioux Center, Iowa– An Orange City teen and her passenger were taken to the hospital after an accident in Sioux Center on Friday, June 24, 2016.

The Sioux Center Police Department reports that about 5:01 PM, 34-year-old Joseph Stephenson of Yankton was driving a 2000 Buick southbound on Highway 75, near the Pizza Hut corner in Sioux Center. They report that 19-year-old Kayla Hoogland of Orange City was westbound on 20th Street Southeast in a 2005 Dodge minivan.

The report says that Hoogland was stopped for the Highway 75 stop sign, and the proceeded westbound through the intersection and failed to yield to the Stephenson vehicle. It says Stephenson attempted to take evasive action to the right but the front left of the vehicle made contact with the front right of the Hoogland vehicle.

The Sioux Center Ambulance took Hoogland and a passenger in her vehicle, Sara Van Peursem, to the Sioux Center Health Hospital.

Stephenson’s Buick sustained $1300 in damages, and Hoogland’s Dodge minivan sustained $2000 in damages. The damages were enough to total both vehicles.

Hoogland was charged with failure to yield upon entering through highway and no proof of insurance.
