Sioux County Sheriff’s Office Reports Several Property-Damage Accidents

On Friday, October 12 at 9:16 AM, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 18, one and three-fourths miles east of Hull. Donald Wulf, age 67, of Larchwood was driving a 1992 Ford utility truck eastbound on Highway 18. Darwin Poppema, age 52, of Orange City was driving a 2004 Ford F150 pickup eastbound on Highway 18 behind Wulf. As Wulf slowed and began turning right onto a business driveway, Poppema collided with the rear of the utility truck. No Injuries were reported. The F150 sustained about $10,000 in damages. The utility truck, owned by Doncat Farms, Inc. of Larchwood sustained about $4,500 in damages. Poppema was cited for following too closely.
On Thursday, October 11, at 5:30 PM, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident 490th Street, three miles south of Orange City. Fanny Garcia, age 21, of Sioux Center was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt westbound on 490th Street when she lost control, entered the south ditch and rolled. No injuries were reported. The Chevrolet sustained about $4,500 in damages. Gonzalez Garcia was cited for failure to maintain control.
On Sunday, October 7 at 8:00 PM, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 10 one half mile west of Orange City. Mikayla Hintz, age 16, of Primghar was driving a 2005 Mercury Mariner eastbound on Highway 10 when multiple deer entered the roadway and collided with the Mercury. No injuries were reported. The Mercury sustained about $5,000 in damages. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Orange City Police Department.
On Thursday, October 4 at 8:19 PM, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of 400th Street and Indian Avenue, four miles north of Orange City. Katelyn Schuller, age 20, of Orange City was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt westbound on 400th Street. Keith Schelling, age 24, of Orange City was driving a John Deere 8130 farm tractor pulling a manure spreader westbound on 400th Street ahead of Schuller. Schuller attempted to pass the tractor as the tractor began to make a left turn at Indian Avenue. When Schuller swerved to avoid a collision she entered the south ditch, colliding with the ditch embankment. No injuries were reported. The Cobalt sustained about $3,000 in damages. Schuller was cited for failure to maintain control.
On Wednesday, October 3 at 5:58 AM, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor accident that occurred on 400th Street, four miles east of Sioux Center. Leonard Slegers, age 55, of Orange City driving a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser westbound on 400th Street when a deer entered the roadway and the two collided. No injuries were reported. The Chrysler sustained about $4,500 in damages.
