Sutherland Woman, Spencer Man Injured In Spencer Crash

spencerpoliceSpencer, Iowa — A Sutherland woman and a Spencer man were transported to the hospital following a 2-vehicle collision that happened during the noon hour Monday (January 31st) in Spencer.

According to the Spencer Police Department, a 2012 GMC Yukon, driven by 56-year old Sherry Ann Maurer of Sutherland was northbound on 7th Avenue Southwest, and stopped for the stop sign at the intersection of 11th Street Southwest.  Maurer reportedly told officers that she had looked both ways twice before proceeding from the stop sign, but failed to see an eastbound 2005 Buick Terraza, driven by 79-year old Edward Devereaux of Spencer.

According to the accident report, Maurer pulled her SUV into the path of the Devereaux car, which struck her in the intersection.

Spencer police say that both Maurer and Devereaux were taken to the Spencer Municipal Hospital by Spencer Ambulance for treatment of possible injuries.

Damage to Maurer’s SUV was estimated at $5-thousand, with an estimated $7-thousand damage to Devereaux’s car.

Police ticketed Maurer for Failure To Obey A Stop Sign.
