The Iowa State Patrol reports that about 5:55 AM, 29-year-old Virginia Lopez of Sioux Center was driving a 2002 Chevy Tahoe eastbound on Highway 10, a half mile west of Orange City.

The report says that the call came in as a vehicle in the ditch west of Orange City on Highway 10. The vehicle had been involved in a rollover crash, and a passerby had taken the driver to Sioux Center earlier. Road conditions were mostly covered with snow and ice at the time, according to the trooper

He says he arrived to find no one at the scene, and the evidence showed the vehicle was eastbound and had lost control. He says it crossed the center line and entered the north ditch where it struck a private drive and rolled. He says another trooper made contact with the driver later. He says a license check on Lopez found no valid DL.

Lopez’s Chevy Tahoe sustained $10,000 in damages, which was enough to total the SUV.

Lopez was charged with failure to maintain control.
