Two Taken To Hospitals After Hospers Accident

Hospers AmbulanceHospers, Iowa– A Worthington teen and a Beresford woman were taken to hospitals after an accident near Hospers on Friday, February 17, 2017.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that about 4:45 PM, 18-year-old Xon Tevalan Bernardo of Worthington was driving a 2002 Jeep eastbound on Hospers Drive North, on the north end of Hospers, and was stopped for the stop sign on Highway 60. They say 20-year-old Ashley Knudson of Beresford was southbound on Highway 60 in a 2003 Saturn.

The report says that Bernardo attempted to cross the southbound lanes of Highway 60 so he could turn north. At this time the Knudson Saturn was approaching. Due to another vehicle obstructing Bernardo’s view, he failed to yield the right of way and Knudson struck the Bernardo vehicle on the driver’s side near the rear.

The Hospers Ambulance took Bernardo to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.
The Granville Ambulance took Knudson to the Orange City Health System Hospital.

Bernardo’s Jeep sustained $3000 in damages, and Knudson’s Saturn sustained $7000 in damages.

Bernardo was charged with Failure To Obey a Stop Sign and Yield the Right of Way, and No Valid Driver’s License.

The trooper advises that Bernardo’s passengers left the scene shortly after the accident and before law enforcement could arrive on the scene.
