Hull, Iowa — A North Dakota woman escaped serious injury when her small SUV struck a straight truck Tuesday morning near Hull.
According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened shortly before 9:00 am Wednesday on Hickory Avenue, about two miles south of Hull. According to the report, the accident happened when a southbound 2012 Chevrolet Captiva, driven by 68-year old Karenn Mahan, of Bismark, North Dakota, crossed the center line and collided with a northbound 2007 Isuzu straight truck, driven by 32-year old Christopher Schlichte, of Remsen. Mahan told deputies she had become distracted, causing her car to cross the center line into the path of the truck.
Mahan was trapped in her car following the collision, and was removed with the assistance of emergency responders, according to deputies. She was reportedly treated and released at the scene by Hull Ambulance personnel.
The Nissan sustained approximately $10,000 in damage. The cargo inside the truck, owned by Vogel Traffic Services of Orange City, IA was ejected on to the roadway and sustained an estimated $40,000 in damage. The Chevrolet sustained approximately $15,000 in damage.
Mahan was reportedly cited for failing to yield half of the roadway. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Hull Fire Department, Hull Rescue and Hull Ambulance.
