Boyden Teen Airlifted To Sioux Falls Hospital After Accident Near Doon Wednesday Morning

Doon, Iowa — A Boyden teen was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital after an accident near Doon on Wednesday morning.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 7:00 AM, 19-year-old Trevor Vandentop of Boyden was westbound on the gravel 250th Street, in a 1992 Chevy S-10 pickup, three miles east of Doon, near the John Deere dealer. Thirty-four-year-old David Pinkerton of Sioux City was northbound on Highway 75 in a 2008 Chevy K2500HD.

The report says Vandentop allegedly ran the stop sign at the intersection and the Pinkerton vehicle struck the Vandentop vehicle in the driver’s side.

Both drivers were taken to Sanford Rock Rapids by Lyon County Ambulance. Vandentop was then airlifted to Sanford Sioux Falls via the Avera Careflight helicopter.

Vandentop’s vehicle, owned by Marvin Vandentop received about $2000 in damage. Pinkerton’s vehicle received about $4,000 in damage.

Doon Fire and Rescue and the Iowa State Patrol assisted the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
