Branstad Signs Disaster Declaration For Sioux Center
Date posted - November 25, 2015
Des Moines, Iowa — After municipal utility failures in Sioux Center this past weekend, Iowa Governor Terry Branstad has issued a proclamation of disaster emergency for Sioux County.
The governor’s proclamation allows State resources to be utilized to respond to and recover from the effects of a winter storm that affected Sioux County beginning Nov. 21, 2015. The proclamation states that during the storm, an electrical distribution transformer box explosion coupled with a water main break and other electrical failures resulted in damage to public property and power outages throughout the city of Sioux Center.
The governor says he issued the proclamation since local resources and capabilities have been exhausted and state assistance and resources are needed to respond to and recover from the effects of this event.
The proclamation activates the disaster response and recovery aspect of the Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department’s Iowa Emergency Response Plan and those additional response plans and authorizes the use and deployment of all available state resources, supplies, equipment, and materials that are reasonably necessary to assist citizens.
