Building On Property East Of Sheldon Receives Only Minor Damage In Fire

Date posted - January 17, 2013

John's Equipment FireSheldon, Iowa — A building on the property at a place just east of Sheldon escaped serious damage, thanks to the quick work of the Sheldon Fire Company on Wednesday.

In the noon hour, Sheldon firefighters were called to the report of fire on the roof of one of the buildings on the property of John’s Equipment Sales, about a half mile east of Sheldon on Highway 18.

According to Fire Chief Jerry Meyer, sparks from a burn pile had blown on the roof of an old granary building. He says the roof has wood shingles and an area of the roof caught fire.

Firefighters sprayed water on the roof of the building to extinguish the flames and cool the area.

Meyer says the Sheldon Fire Company was on the scene for about 30 minutes, and the damage was minimal.
