Car Found Near Sioux City Sparks Investigation That Finds Car, Other Items Stolen From Hawarden Home

sioux sheriff emblem side of carHawarden, Iowa — A car found near Sioux City on Saturday sparked an investigation in Sioux County, and not only had the car been taken, but the owner’s home had been burglarized as well.

It all started about 6:20 Saturday evening, when the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office of a suspicious vehicle that was parked near Sioux City.

Upon further investigation, deputies determined that the vehicle found near Sioux City belonged to rural Hawarden residents. Investigation of the vehicle found near Sioux City led to the discovery that the vehicle owner’s home, northeast of Hawarden, had been burglarized.

Deputies found that the person or people who burglarized the home damaged a door to get inside. Several items were taken including a large safe, power tools, firearms, and cash.

The case remains under investigation.
