Celebrate Intl. Archaeology Day With Native Games At PHC

Peterson, Iowa — The Prairie Heritage Center between Sutherland and Peterson on Highway 10 is marking International Archaeology Day at their facility this weekend.

The actual day is this Saturday, October 21st, but the events at the Prairie Heritage Center are the next day, Sunday the 22nd.

According to the Archaeological Institute of America, International Archaeology Day is a celebration of archaeology and the thrill of discovery. Every October the AIA and archaeological organizations across the United States, Canada, and abroad present archaeological programs and activities for people of all ages and interests. Whether it is a family-friendly archaeology fair, a guided tour of a local archaeological site, a simulated dig, a lecture or a classroom visit from an archaeologist, the institute says the interactive, hands-on International Archaeology Day programs provide the chance to “indulge your inner Indiana Jones.”

You can celebrate International Archaeology Day at the Prarie Heritage Center on Sunday by learning about some games from the past. Those in charge say it will be a hands-on event that engages participants in playing a wide variety of games. They tell us you can try your luck with games of chance, test your senses with observation tests, and hone your skills with active games. They say the event will include activities appropriate for people of all ages.

Again it’s this Sunday, October 22nd, starting at 2:00 p.m.
