Sibley, Iowa — The Sibley Public Library will turn 100 years old this year, and the celebrations continue, with one planned on Monday.
Library officials tell us that the original part of the building was a Carnegie library. A Carnegie library is one that was built with money donated by Scottish-American businessman and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. A total of 2,509 Carnegie libraries were built between 1883 and 1929.
Sibley Public Library Director Mary Earll gives us some history.
She says another donor also helped with the library.
She says they’ve got a celebration happening on Monday, the 17th of this month, and the big celebration coming up a month later, on August 17th.
