Corn Show Features Carnival, Exhibits, More

Little Rock, Iowa — School is starting this week in the great majority of northwest Iowa communities. That also means that this weekend it’s one of the final town festivals of the year — the Corn Show in Little Rock. (Interestingly enough, this year school will not be in session yet at George-Little Rock, due to a bat problem at the high school. They’ll start on Monday, August 28th.)

The Corn Show is a little different from some town festivals. The atmosphere is actually not unlike a county fair. Rod Borer is one of the people organizing the Corn Show, and he tells us that the 70th Annual Corn Show starts this Wednesday night with flower entries. Things get going in earnest on Thursday, he says.

Another thing that leads to the “county fair” atmosphere at the Corn Show is the high-quality carnival, says Borer.

Borer says they are lucky to get McDermott Family Shows. He says he thinks part of that is due to the fact there are no county fairs in Minnesota this weekend, due to the Minnesota State Fair going on. He says they’re very grateful for the partnership they have with McDermott.

Borer says the big day of the Corn Show is Saturday.

He says Sunday is pretty full of activities too.

That’s all at the Little Rock Corn Show, this Wednesday through Sunday in Little Rock.
