Sheldon Business Announces Major Expansion

Sheldon, Iowa — Another Sheldon business has announced a major expansion. At Wednesday’s Sheldon City Council meeting Sudbeck Trucking announced plans to build a new storage facility at a cost of about $650-thousand. The structure will be 90-feet wide and 220-feet long, and will be built at their 16th Street location on the southwest edge of Sheldon.

At their meeting Wednesday, the council gave their approval to the development of a subdivision on land owned by Mark Wenck, which consists of five lots of about two or two-and-a-half acres each on the east side of Country Club Road, just south of the Sheldon Country Club. The council also approved the annexation of the property located on the northeast corner of the Highway 18 and 60 intersection, which is designated for future development by the SCDC and the City.

The council agenda also included a decision on a proposal to add a second full-time employee to the Crossroads Pavilion Staff. However, Mayor Katricia Meendering stated that she felt council members did not have enough information to make a decision at this time. Council member Brad Hindt argued that they did have enough information, but the Mayor’s decision prevailed and the discussion has been re-scheduled for the April 4th meeting.

Several months ago, a visit from the Boy Scouts inspired the Sheldon City Council to open their meetings with the Pledge of Allegiance. The scouts were also present at Wednesday’s council meeting to honor one of the council members with the designation of “hero”. A scout leader explained that the scouts had been learning about heroes, including those who dedicate part of their lives to local community service. The scouts decided to award the honor to Brad Hindt, who serves as a fireman, as well as a city councilman, and on several committees.
