Council Entertains Offer For Three Remaining Trilogy Addition Lots

Sheldon, Iowa — There are only three lots left for sale in Sheldon’s Trilogy Addition and at their meeting Wednesday the city council was presented with a plan to build a new single-family home on each of them.

Poppema-Sikma Construction and Fred’s Plumbing and Heating offered to buy those lots for a total of fifty thousand dollars. This is much lower than the preset price for these lots, but it was pointed out that there is a steep slope on the lots which would need to be corrected with terraces or some other type of project. Bob Poppema told the council that this would be costly to them, therefore they could not pay the full listed price. The council brought up the fact that the lowest price paid for any of the other lots in that addition was twenty-two thousand dollars.

The council agreed to have the city manager work out details for the purchase, which would then be brought to a public hearing on the matter.

In other business, the council set May 2nd as the date for three public hearings. These will be on the 16th street project, rezoning of Rustic Ridge, and rezoning the Sheldon Crossroads North Business Park. The council also approved the ordinance on sewer rates and approved the plans for a new building at the airport to house the new snow removal equipment. The total cost of the building will be $289,600. The federal government will pay ninety percent of the cost, with the City of Sheldon paying the remaining ten percent. The council was told that construction of the steel building could begin in July.
