Council Passes Parking Restrictions.

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council has voted to approve an ordinance that will affect overnight parking in downtown Sheldon, and parking on East Sixth Street.

When this ordinance takes effect, there will be no parking allowed between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. on 9th Street between Second Avenue and Fifth Avenue, Third Avenue between Eighth Street and Tenth Street, and on Fourth Avenue between Eighth Street and Tenth Street.  There also will be no parking allowed anytime on the north side of East Sixth Street between 19th Avenue and 23rd Avenue. City officials will inform downtown business owners of this ordinance change so that they can pass the information on to their renters.  Also, the proper signage will soon be put in place.

Also at Wednesday’s meeting the council approved the contract and bonds for the new Airport Snow Removal Equipment Building that will be constructed by Larson Contractors of Lake Mills.

In other action, the council moved forward on beginning the search for a new City Manager by conducting a telephone information session with Brent Hinson whose company will help conduct the search. Hinson Consulting will begin advertising the open position in Sheldon immediately, with the deadline for applications set for September 5th, after which they will immediately begin screening the applicants. That screening will be followed by the City and consultants coordinating interviews with the finalists for the position. The tentative schedule provides for an ‘interview weekend’ in Sheldon, October 5th and 6th. The salary range for the City Manager position will be from  $90-thousand to $105-thousand per year, plus a full benefit package. Hinson told the council that is within the average range for similar positions in cities the size of Sheldon.
