Council To Approve G.O. Loan Notes To Finance Purchase Of Fire Truck & Police Cars

Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets in regular session this week one of the items on their agenda will be approval of a General Obligation Capital Loan Note for the purchase of three emergency vehicles for two Sheldon Emergency Services Departments.

The bonded amount will be $650,000. Those funds will be used to pay for a new pumper truck for the Sheldon Fire Company, as well as a pair of 2020 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor SUVs for the Sheldon Police Department. The council approved the purchase of the fire pumper on November 7th last year, and it is scheduled to arrive in November this year. The two new police vehicles were included in the 5-year Capital Improvements Plan which was approved on December 5, 2018. Delivery of those two vehicles is expected in December.

The price for the new pumper truck will be $552,312, while the new police SUVs will cost about $35,000 each, plus the cost of some equipment that will be needed before they are placed into patrol service. The loan is provided by Iowa State Bank on a seven year note at 2.7% interest.

In other business, the council will hear a request from garbage haulers about new refuse containers, approve the initial pay estimate for work done on the Crossroads North Project, and take a tour of the new Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Wednesday’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm in Council Chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center.
