Council To Consider Search Team In Hunt For New City Manager

Sheldon, Iowa — The hunt for a new City Manager will be one of the topics for the Sheldon City Council to discuss at their meeting this Wednesday July 18th.

The council will be asked to consider a proposal from Hinson Consulting, a company with experience in helping communities search for City Managers and other positions. According to their proposal they would do this work for the City of Sheldon for a flat fee of fourteen thousand dollars.  Their work would include help in preparing the Position Profile, advertising, screening of candidates, background checks, coordination of interviews and other activities associated with the search and hiring of a new Sheldon City Manager.

The council will also consider a wage resolution for the Economic Development Director.  The SCDC has recommended that the annual salary of Curt Strouth be increased to $85,000 effective this month.

In other business, the council will consider the second reading of an ordinance amending the downtown parking as well as parking restrictions on a portion of East 6th Street.  They will also discuss a Waste Collection Agreement with Schwarz Sanitary Service and De Kruif Disposal.  The current agreements require that the collection of solid waste at Sheldon residences shall be at least one time during the week and recycling two times each month. The City pays the collectors $15.25 per month for each residence they service.  The Collectors also receive a fuel surcharge for any month in which the cost of diesel fuel reaches three dollars or more per gallon on the 15th of the month.  That agreement expires on July 31st of this year.

Wednesday’s meeting begins at 4:30 in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
