Council To Consider Write-Off Of More Than $17-Thousand In Uncollectible SCAT Bills

New SCATSheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council  will meet this Wednesday January 18th with a public hearing  to consider approval of an amendment to the 2016-2017 budget.

They will also discuss the new events facility advisory board.  This board will oversee the operation of Crossroads Pavilion.

In other business, the Council will also consider writing off the uncollectible ambulance accounts for the fourth quarter of last year.   SCAT bills for the fourth quarter totaled $47,247.02, with $17,453.50 of that amount being uncollectible.  The majority of the uncollectible bills are due to limits set by Medicare.  When the Medicare payment is less than the amount billed, the City is not allowed to demand payment for the remainder.  Forty seven of the sixty SCAT bills with uncollectible balances were for clients covered by Medicare.

Wednesday’s meeting begins at 4:30 in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
