City Council To Hold Public Hearing During Today’s Meeting

city councilSheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets at 4:30 this afternoon, they will hold a public hearing on a request for an option on a lot in the Trilogy Addition.  Seth Hellinga and Philip Miklo have requested the right of first refusal to purchase the lot for $32, 820.00.  While this is in effect, if the City of Sheldon receives another bona fide offer to purchase the real estate, Hellinga and Miklo would have ten business days to exercise their right to purchase the property.  This option and right of refusal would continue until exercised by Hellinga and Miklo or until February 28, 2018, whichever occurs first.

In an unrelated item of business the Council will also consider the sale of other lots in Trilogy which is the area near Fieldcrest.

The Council will also act on the Mayor’s appointments to the Events Center Board and consider the first reading of an ordinance that creates that Board and outlines its makeup and responsibilities.  The Board will be made up of seven members, five of whom will be persons residing within the Sheldon Community School District or individuals having pertinent experience that will aid in the successful operation of the Crossroads Pavilion.  The other two will be members of the Sheldon City Council.  The City Manager will be a non-voting member of the Board.

In other business the Council will set the Dates of consultation and a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the City’s Urban Renewal Plan.

The 2017-2018 fiscal year budget will also be on the agenda as the Council plans to finalize it in preparation for a public hearing.  There will also be a discussion of the compensation for two city employees who helped with City Manager Duties while there was no City Manager on the payroll.  And there will be a closed session on Union Negotiations.

Today’s meeting begins at 4:30 in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
