Council To Hold Public Hearing On 5-Year Capital Improvement Plan

Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets Wednesday December 6th, they will hold a public hearing on the City’s five-year Capital Improvement Plan.  Some of the major projects for the upcoming Fiscal year include $289-thousand for the Airport Equipment Building, and $522-thousand for 16th Street Improvements.  The $600-thousand cost to replace a fire department mainline pumper will be split between Fiscal Years ’18 and ’19.  The Street Department will spend $250-thousand per year for asphalt overlay in fiscal years ’19 through ‘22, after spending $200-thousand in 2018.  The Water Department plans to construct the new water tower and associated water line extension in fiscal year ’20 at an estimated cost of $2.25-million.  Another $500-thousand will be spent on water distribution upgrades in the following two years.

In other business, the council will consider the final reading of an ordinance on Sewer Rate increases, hear the report on the fiscal year 2016-2017 audit, and decide on making a contribution to the O’Brien County Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Trust.  This fund has helped finance the rehabilitation of eight homes in Sheldon over the past few years.

The council will also act on the request for a waiver of the city’s requirements for subdivision lots outside of the City Limits.   These requirements apply to subdivisions located within one mile of the city limits.

And, the final item on the agenda will be held in a possible closed session for a City Manager’s Evaluation..

Wednesday’s meeting begins at 4:30 in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
