Council Updated On Budget Changes

Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council met Wednesday they were updated on some changes in the budget.  One of those was a clarification of the fire department’s budget request.  It was reported that the department would like to replace their main pumper truck in two years at a cost of approximately six hundred thousand dollars.  None of that cost will be included in the 2018-19 budget, but during this year they will seek out ways to pay for it in the future.

During his report to the council Police Chief Lyle Bolkema said that the actual costs of the new garage doors, chairs and mobile vision Car Cameras were very close to the estimates he had made for the budget, with the price of a new copier considerably lower.

In other business, the council set March 7th as the date for public hearings on the budget and the Floyd industrial Park.  That is also the date the council had set for a public hearing on the Wastewater Treatment project.  Public Works Director Todd Uhl said there seemed to be a lot of ‘contractor interest’ in that project.  He also provided the council with water usage data, noting that last year the City pumped 336.4 million gallons of water from their wells.

And, Mayor Meendering reported that she had named Melissa Remme as a member of the Trails Committee, and Allison Cook as a member of the Parks and Recreation Committee.
