County Line Crash Claims Life Of Teen

Calumet, Iowa — A Cherokee teen has died as the result of an accident near Calumet.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that about 12:50 PM on Sunday, December 6, 2015, 19-year-old Kaliegh Jones of Cherokee was driving a 2005 Ford southbound on Highway 59, two miles south of Calumet, just into Cherokee County. Forty-three-year-old Shannon Manwarren of Primghar was northbound on 59 in a 2014 Ford pickup.

The report says that the vehicles collided head-on.

Jones died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The Cherokee Ambulance took Manwarren to Cherokee Regional hospital. Also injured in the crash were 15-year-old Kyleigh Sanders, and 15-year-old Ashley Portz, both of Primghar.

The preliminary report does not list damage amounts to the vehicles.

According to the trooper, the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

The trooper’s report indicates the Cherokee and O’Brien County Sheriff’s Offices and several local ambulances and EMTs assisted at the scene.
