Crops Continue To Mature; Silage Harvest Wrapping Up

Northwest Iowa — Some reports are showing that crop maturity varies widely in Iowa, even sometimes within the same field. Iowa State University Extension Crop Agronomist Joel De Jong says he does see SOME of that.

De Jong looks into his crystal ball to tell us when to expect harvest season to start in earnest.

De Jong says those same drying conditions that mean grains will be harvested soon, mean that the silage harvest is probably wrapping up.

De Jong also wanted to take this time to remind folks on the roads that as we get into harvest season, there are going to be a lot more farm implements on the road in northwest Iowa, and they cannot travel as fast as road vehicles can. So he says to be on the lookout for them and drive with caution, especially during the upcoming harvest season.
