Crossroads Pavilion Board Elects Officers

Events Center 9Sheldon, Iowa — The group tasked with overseeing the operation of Sheldon’s new Crossroads Pavilion Events Center held their first meeting earlier this week.

The Crossroads Pavilion Board is made up of city council members Zach Sawyer and Pete Hamil, along with five members of the general public: Kevin Cain, Rob Roozeboom, Laura Vande Brake, Peter Wagner, and Marv Van Riessen.  Sheldon City Manager Sean Hutchison serves as a non-voting board member.

At their first meeting the Board elected Kevin Cain as Board Chair, Marv Van Riessen as Vice-Chair, and Pete Hamil as Secretary/Treasurer.  According to City Manager Sean Hutchison, the group also reviewed the city ordinance that provides authority for the Board and their responsibilities.  Hutchison says that, following that review, the Board had no recommendations for changes or modifications to the ordinance before it’s passed on it’s third reading at the next City Council meeting.

Hutchison says the Board also began discussion on the development of a Mission Statement for the facility.  He says that each member will be considering the mission of the facility, as well as their individual mission in its operation, and will combine each member’s ideas into a final Mission Statement, probably at the next Board meeting.

The Board set the schedule for future meetings, as well.  They will meet at 6 pm, the second Wednesday of each month.  However, Hutchison says that as this fall’s opening of the facility approaches, they will probably be meeting more frequently.
