Dordt STEM Fest Registration Opens Monday

Sioux Center, Iowa — Hands-on learning and fun activities are in store once again for northwest Iowa elementary and middle school students. And registration begins Monday.

Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach’s annual STEM Fest at Dordt College will begin accepting registrations on Monday, January 21st. The Spring STEM Fest will be held Saturday, February 9th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Dordt College in Sioux Center.

Extension officials tell us that STEM Fest is open to all area 4th through 8th-grade students, but maximum capacity is 200 students. The event offers youth an opportunity to take part in multiple hands-on applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Dordt College Campus Center main entrance, with the program beginning at 9:00 a.m. A public showcase will be held at 3:00 p.m. after which youth will be dismissed for the day.

Sioux County Youth Coordinator with ISU Extension and Outreach and coordinator of the event, Katie Leusink, says that they are excited to be offering a variety of innovative, hands-on sessions at the upcoming STEM Fest. She says that they have great partners who will be hosting sessions this year, and they’re excited to offer different youth learning opportunities ranging from virtual reality to digital media to mammal surgery to ice cream and cheese making and much, much more.

Parents must register their child(ren) online and choose their child’s first choice color track, as well as two alternative color track choices. The color tracks list which sessions and activities will be offered.

Online registration can be completed at https://form.jotform.com/4Hregion1/dordt-stem-fest-2019. Registration will close Feb. 6 or sooner if the maximum of 200 youth is reached prior to that date. The registration fee for STEM Fest is $10 per youth.

In past years, STEM Fests have filled to capacity, so it might be a good idea to register your kids as soon as you are able.
