Drought Meeting Wednesday At NCC

Sheldon, Iowa — The dry, hot weather is taking its toll not only on people and lawns, but on crops and livestock as well. A meeting is planned on Wednesday (7/25) to highlight what can be done and the resources available.
Iowa State University Extension & Outreach in Sioux, O’Brien, Lyon, and Osceola counties is hosting the Drought Informational Meeting at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon. It’ll be in Building A, Rooms 115-119 from 1 to 3 PM.
Joel DeJong, Extension Field Agronomist will speak on “Crop Growth and Development Under Drought Conditions”.
Beth Doran, Extension Beef Field Specialist will speak on “Feeding Drought Damaged Crops”.
Dr. William Edwards, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Economist will speak on “Crop Insurance Considerations”.
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach staff will be available starting at noon for any producers who would like to have the opportunity to receive nitrate assessment on corn stock samples. Producers need to bring five representative samples for nitrate assessment. Nitrate assessments will be conducted on site at Northwest Iowa Community College prior to the start of the Drought Informational Meeting.
