UPDATE: East Elementary Students Pack Food For Honduras

Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon East Elementary students, faculty and staff were kept busy Friday (December 7th) packing food to be distributed to Honduras by an organization called “Then Feed Just One.”

Early last month, East Elementary School Counselor Heather Craig told KIWA that East had undertaken a couple of service projects to help feed the hungry.  She said the students November and December Guidance Lessons focused on kindness and gratitude. She said the object was to show students not only what that looks like at East Elementary, but how that might look globally.

The global project was done in conjunction with “Then Feed Just One”, a mobile food packing organization.  Craig says the East students raised money to pay for the “Then Feed Just One” food packages, each of which cost about 16-cents. Friday was the day the students packed the food for “Then Feed Just One” that will then be shipped to Honduras to feed needy children and family.

According to East Elementary Principal Jason Groendyke, as of about 12:40 Friday afternoon, East Elementary students and faculty had packed some 24-thousand meals, and were on track to reach their goal of 30-thousand meals packed. As of mid-afternoon Friday, East officials say they finished up packaging approximately 32,616 meals for “Then Feed Just One” during their Friday service project.

Sheldon, Iowa — Students and teachers at East Elementary in Sheldon have undertaken service projects over the next couple of months to help feed the hungry, both here and abroad.

East Elementary School Counselor Heather Craig tells us how the service projects came about.

Craig says the students’ November project involves feeding people in another country.

She tells us where the food for the “Then Feed Just One” project comes from.

Craig says December’s service project will help feed the hungry right here at home.

Craig says if you’d like to donate food for the O’Brien County UDMO Food Bank you can drop off your donations at East Elementary, or at UDMO’s office in Primghar.
