According to Nobles County authorities, Ellsworth head basketball coach and physical education teacher John D. Roberts has been charged with Stalking With Intent To Injure, and Fifth Degree Assault.

Court documents say Nobles County Deputies were called to Ellsworth Public School just before 8 PM on Monday, April 21st. The report says they were called for a report of threats being made.

The records say school Board member Micheal Werner told deputies that after Roberts heard that the board would not be renewing his contract, he allegedly sent a text message to Werner that stated, “I’m coming after you.”

The documents say deputies went to Roberts’ girlfriend’s place, where he was staying at the time. While the deputies and board members were there, court records say he told board members, “You better watch out”.

At that point, feeling that Roberts intended to act on the threats, deputies arrested him.

After being booked into jail, Roberts posted a $3000 bond and was released. His first court appearance is to be in May.
