State Patrol Releases Name Of Victim In Fatal Accident Near Primghar

fatal ambulance IIPrimghar, Iowa — A northwest Iowa school has lost a fourth grade teacher in a car accident.

The call went out just before 3:40 Friday afternoon. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the vehicle driven by 24-year-old Derrick Austin Rensink of Primghar was westbound on County Road B40 about two miles west of Primghar. They say Rensink apparently had a seizure at the wheel. The vehicle drifted into the ditch, where it hit a cement culvert and ditch embankment.

Rensink was transported to Baum Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar, where he was pronounced dead. According to South O’Brien Schools, Rensink taught fourth grade.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Paullina Police, and Primghar Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.

Funeral arrangements for Rensink are with the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
