Lora Petitt, executive director of Love in the Name of Christ of Greater Sheldon (Love INC) has resigned to assume the position of Director of Operating Affiliates with the Love INC National Movement. Petitt has served in the Sheldon capacity for the past 10 years.
“My heart is filled with joy as I reflect on the many relationships formed through my time with Love INC of Greater Sheldon,” she said. “It is exciting to see Christian volunteers follow God’s call to serve and how He equips each one with different skills, so that when all working together they produce an effective and powerful movement with the goal of serving the Lord.”
In her new role with the Love INC national organization, Petitt will help equip Love INC affiliates nationally and internationally to stay focused on the mission and model of Love INC.
She says she’s happy to start something new, but will miss her current position too.
Jerry Postma, Love INC board president, says that while it is difficult to say good-bye to a good friend and ministry partner, they fully support Petitt in this new calling and pray for God’s blessing. He says that the current staff members are faithful and committed, and the board has every confidence in their ability to carry this ministry through this time of change.
She says the board will begin working on transition plans and to select the next executive director immediately.
Pettit says she wants to thank the Sheldon area for the support that Love INC has received in northwest Iowa over the past 10 years. She says it’s been a delight working with churches and volunteers and she would ask for continued prayers for the ministry during this transition time.
She will assume her new position in May and will be based in Sheldon.

SHELDON, Iowa – Love in the Name of Christ of Greater Sheldon (Love INC) is celebrating 10 years of Christian Service. As part of the festivities the theme of this special year is “Compelled by Christ’s love,” with 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 as the key verses. Love INC will also be introducing a 10 year anniversary logo to implement throughout the year as part of the celebration.
Love INC opened its doors for Christian service in March 2003. After recognizing a need for a Christian ministry in O’Brien and Osceola Counties, a task force of local pastors created the ministry Love INC which is part of a national organization started in 1977 with over 150
Founded on 10 core Christian values and with a mission to mobilize the church to transform lives and communities in the name of Christ, Love INC has served its purpose through the founding of many ministries.
One form of ministry is through Gap ministries. Gap Ministries identify unmet needs in the community and mobilize local churches, volunteers and community agencies to fulfill those needs. Each Gap Ministry is focused on a particular need. Some examples include Bedding and Blanket Ministry, Furniture and Appliance Ministry, Friday Backpack Ministry and many others. Another Love INC ministry is the Clearinghouse, which is the foundation of Love INC. They receive requests for help, screen the requests to check for legitimacy and refer the request to a local church ministry, volunteer or community agency. Then they follow up to ensure that the need was met.
“It’s very important that we, as Christians, meet all the needs in the community. Many times in Christian ministry certain needs do not get met or they get overlooked. That is what Gap Ministries work to avoid. Through Gap Ministries we can fill in the gaps found in service,” Lora
Petitt, executive director of Love INC said.
Love INC also established a Comprehensive Transformational Ministry. This ministry helps people in need make lasting lifestyle changes through mentoring, goal setting, emotional and spiritual support and skills training. Through the Loving Help Program, budgeting classes, life
skills classes, positive parenting classes, Bible study classes, cooking classes and reciprocal language partnerships are offered. These classes require volunteers from many different partner churches, but take place at the Bethel Reformed Church of Sheldon.
Over the past 10 years Love INC has been able to meet thousands of needs in O’Brien and Osceola Counties. They have served hundreds of clients and have had help from hundreds of Christian volunteers. The ministry has experienced growth since 2003, starting with 10 partner
churches representing six denominations. Now Love INC has grown to 21 churches representing nine different denominations.
“We are so thankful; God has blessed our ministry in so many ways. It’s amazing to see how much we have grown in the last 10 years,” Petitt said. “We pray that the next 10 years are full of even more Christian service.”

About the 10th anniversary logo:
The logo includes the theme for the year, which is “Compelled by Christ’s Love” based on 2 Corinthians 5:14-15. The verse says that Christ’s love compels us to live for Him, because He died for all. The logo also includes the traditional Love INC colors and heart with the theme and verse inside it.
The new logo was created by Emilee Berry, a sophomore graphic design major at Northwestern College (NWC). Berry designed the logo as part of a competition in the NWC art department advanced graphic design class. Hers was selected from eight designs.
“The main focus of this design was to embrace Love INC’s current logo and the representation it has by incorporating the logo colors, as well as a hand- rendered look,” Berry said in her artist statement. “The design is versatile and can be used as a whole, but it can also be separated into varying sections depending on the intended use.”
