Final Documents For Event Center Bond Approved

Events Center 9Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council has approved the final documents necessary for the General Obligation Capital Loan Notes that will help finance the new events center.  The Council also gave their support to an application for a grant that would help fund the extension of the Recreational Trail System all the way around the Borrow Pit pond in the new park. The Engineer’s estimate of the cost for this project is $326,692.93.  If approved, the grant will fund 75 percent of this amount.  The remainder, $81,674, would be paid with funds the Recreational Trail Board has available.   City Manager Scott Wynja told the Council that another grant may be available that would pay for park amenities.

The council agenda also included a request from the SCDC for a Housing Program, but Development Director Curt Strouth told the Council that there are still a few details to be worked out in their proposal.  He indicated that it would be ready for Council consideration at their July 6th meeting.

The Council set July 6th as the date for a public hearing on a rezoning request.  The July 6th meeting will be held at 12:00 noon.
