UPDATE: Fire Extensively Damages Apartment Building In Rock Valley

UPDATE: Rock Valley, Iowa — A old motel being used as an apartment building was damaged in a fire on Thursday, November 23, 2017 in Rock Valley.

According to Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis, about 3:35 a.m. early on Thanksgiving morning, the Rock Valley Fire Department was called to the report of a structure fire near the corner of Highway 18 and 12th Avenue west of the park.

The chief says the fire department saw heavy smoke on the east side of the building with flames visible from the basement windows as they approached the scene. He says they sprayed water through the basement windows, and later made entry into the basement to extinguish the blaze.

Eshuis says no injuries were reported, and those who lived in the 10 units was able to escape. He says there is fire damage to two apartments and there is smoke damage throughout the building.

The Hull Fire Department and the Sioux Center Fire Department assisted Rock Valley firefighters on the scene. The Rock Valley Ambulance Squad also assisted.

He says the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s office, who was on-scene later in the day to investigate.

Chief Eshuis reports that there was extensive damage.

He says fire crews were on scene until 8:00 a.m.

Rock Valley, Iowa — Details are sketchy at this time, but Rock Valley and Hull firefighters were sent to a structure fire early on Thanksgiving morning.

The page went out in the 3 a.m. hour to a building that witnesses said was a former motel near the corner of 10th Street and 12th Avenue in Rock Valley. The call said the structure was fully engulfed.

Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis says the cause of the fire is under investigation, but he could provide no more details at the time.

Burn marks could be seen on the exterior of the building outside of what appeared to be at least two units.
