Warm Up Next Week But Snow First

Northwest, Iowa — A dangerous winter storm is taking aim on the region starting Friday and continuing into the weekend.

A band of heavy snowfall will develop by midday Friday, and continue through the night. Once the snow ends early Saturday, accumulations of 6 to 8 inches will be seen in areas along and north of Interstate 90, with 2 to 6 inches elsewhere to the south. In addition to the snowfall, northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph Friday night and Saturday will usher brutal arctic air into the Northern Plains.

Life-threatening wind chills from 30 to 45 degrees below zero, will plague the region from Saturday morning through at least mid-day on Sunday.
