Five Of Nine Dream Big Grow Here Contestants Are From Our Area

Northwest Iowa — Out of the nine business ventures that entered a regional entrepreneur contest, five are from our part of northwest Iowa.

Sheldon’s Economic Development Director Curt Strouth tells us about the fifth annual Dream Big, Grow Here contest.

The five from our area are:

Sara Hulstein’s Midwest Flower Design in Maurice: Hulstein says she’s a sole owner and designer looking to grow the community and love of florals one event at a time.

Melinda Nasers’ Grace Boutique in Sibley: Nasers says they provide a boutique experience shopping for women’s and men’s name brand clothing, decorative household and furniture items at an affordable price.

Daniel Stillson’s SnSLabz in Rock Rapids: Stillson says the almost two-year-old company creates 3D printed products, specializing in electronic and gaming accessories.

Shay Van Schepen’s Shaybe’s Boutique in Rock Valley: Van Schepen says Shaybe’s is a small-town boutique offering clothing in infants to plus sizes as well as shoes, jewelry, handbags, etc all in a variety of styles.

James Van Veldhuizen’s Northwest Iowa Firearms in Hull. Van Veldhuizen says they are a small town firearm and firearm accessory store providing the local communities with “everything they could dream of when it comes to firearms and firearms accessories as well as customizing firearms.”

The other entrapreneurs a little further from our area are a jewelry business in Sergeant Bluff, a cafe and deli in Sioux City, a yoga studio in Le Mars, and a board game cafe in Sioux City.

Strouth gives us some important dates as they relate to the contest.

Winners will be selected that same evening. He says the prize for first place is $4000, second place is $2000, and third place is $1000, all toward their entrepreneurial idea. The site to visit is dreambiggrowhere.com.
