According to Hartley Fire Chief Kevin Soden, the Hartley Fire Department was called in the 2 PM hour to the report of house fire at the home of Roland Muhs at 3589 Vine Avenue, four miles south of Hartley.

The chief says the fire department saw a garage that was fully engulfed, and the breezeway to the house was also fully involved in flame as they approached the scene. He says the fire had started extending to the attic of the house as well.

Soden says no injuries were reported, and all family members and the dog got out safely.

The Sanborn, Primghar and Sutherland Fire Departments helped to fight the fire, says Soden.

He says the cause of the fire was still under investigation at last report, and that firefighters were on scene for five hours.
